Bariatric Surgeon in Reston VA

Dr. Amanda C. Pysher

Dr. Pysher was born in and grew up on the New Jersey shore. She received her undergraduate degree from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Her love of surgical care was strengthened during her undergraduate studies when she worked as a nursing assistant in the ambulatory surgery unit of a Boston hospital.

After college, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she completed both medical school and her General Surgery residency at Georgetown University. She then went on to complete a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery fellowship at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. In addition to being board certified in General Surgery, she has obtained fellowship certifications from the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and a DaVinci Robotic Equivalency Certification.

Dr. Pysher’s clinical interests include bariatric and metabolic surgery, foregut and anti-reflux surgery, and abdominal wall reconstruction. She focuses on applying new technologies to the surgical management of diseases, including DaVinci robotic surgery, advanced laparoscopy, and endoscopy. Her training allows her to apply minimally invasive technique to more patients, which results in less pain, faster recovery time, and smaller scars.

Dr. Pysher was eager to move back to Washington, D.C. at the completion of her fellowship. Her interests outside of her clinical practice include running outdoors, cooking for her family and friends, and spending time with her Boxer puppy, Barkley. She focuses her clinical practice on weight loss surgery, to not only improve the overall health of her patients, but to improve their quality of life.
